Plug-In Media
These guys have some really cool stuff goin’ on. Their site features a UFO that zaps things when you click (even the people) and also some cool section transitions that put bitmap data to good use.
One of the coolest things I’ve seen in their portfolio so far is this soccer game they did for Philips. Really cool combination of 3D Flash and video integration; definitely check it out.
1 commentNew Design :: Happy Holidays 2006
I’ve been thinking about doing something festive for a few days now, so tonight I added yet another new piece to my collection. The light bulbs were all generated by a Flash script I wrote; none of them were placed individually. Textures, additional coloring, and type were all added afterwards in Photoshop.
2 commentsAnimation System v1.5 :: Bug Fix
Brandon Parker found a bug in my system while experimenting with blurs. In my tests, I quickly animated something to a blur, but I never tried animating it back (which is where the problems began). I investigated the issue and, as it turns out, you cannot use the ’splice’ method on ‘filters’ like you would on a normal array. It was simple enough to fix though, so grab the latest package below to get your hands on the updated version of ‘BlurAnimation.as’.

The new Mindflood site titled “Seduction” is exactly that. Hillarious, original, and well designed. I really like this site.

The talented crew over at WDDG have finally launched their new site. Great design and originality, but be prepared for some frustrating load times while the videos buffer.

Or Tai-Chi for short, this new concept that has been developed by European scientists is simply brilliant. A handful of small acoustic sensors (microphones essentially) are placed on a surface and as the surface is touched, the vibrations are detected by the sensors. By reading the input brought in by each of the sensors, you can easily see how coordinates could be derived from such data.

Since I first posted my animation system on here to share with the world, I have received some really terrific feedback. There were also a couple of feature requests mixed in there, and this release addresses those.
New in v1.5:
- Optional ‘delay’ parameter allows you to set a timeout in milliseconds that triggers the animation when expired.
- New animation type ‘blur’ - allows you to blur an object as simply as you would animate anything else.
Bonus:
- With the addition of the delay feature, my timeout manager is now included in this package as well. It allows you to easily manage multiple timeouts and remove them with ease if necessary before they expire.
For those of you who haven’t checked out my animation system, if you are interested and hardcore into Flash, I would love to get some feedback from you. This is a similar implementation to the one I wrote at EA that is now used in both Madden NFL and NCAA Football titles. The code is super clean and written in a strict, object-oriented manner, making it very easy to extend upon with new animation types and features.
NOTE: The link below includes the bug fix discussed in this post.

Also, I know a lot of you are wondering when I’m releasing an AS3 version. It is in the works in what small amounts of free time I have available right now. My realistic goal is currently January.

Wow. Virgin has become the first spaceline in the world, offering commercial flights into space. For the everyday low price of $200,000 with a minimum refundable deposit of $20,000, you can go down in history as one of the first commercial astronauts. A simple, yet nice Flash site showcases the experience.
