Speaking @ Full Sail - May 16th
[Update 05.23.08]
Sorry everyone! As it turns out, I was sick that week and had no choice but to reschedule the presentation. I will post information about the new date and time of this event once it is set.
[/Update]
I will be speaking at Full Sail University in Orlando on Friday, May 16th at 2:00pm in the Entertainment Business Auditorium for both students and staff. My presentation is aimed to be both informative and inspirational, with some exploration of cutting edge Flash/Flex pipelines, as well as an inside look at what we’re working on at Schematic right now. Hope to see you there!
4 commentsAS3 Animation System v3.0 (aka Turbo) - Status Update
Just wanted to post a quick note regarding the status of the next iteration of my AS3 animation system (dubbed Turbo for the time being) since I have been receiving a lot of emails inquiring about it. I started working on it specifically to meet some demanding needs of a project that I have been working on at Schematic since the beginning of this year. Since then, I have been sidetracked by other projects, books, and presentations - so needless to say I am a little behind schedule on it’s development at the moment. Everyone that has requested to be on the beta list will indeed be on there, so I will keep you all posted and hopefully have the first beta in your hands sometime in June. If you are interested in being on the beta list and haven’t already brought that to my attention, feel free to leave a comment on here or email me directly.
7 commentsFlash Player 9’s Biggest Problem
Grant just recently wrote an excellent article detailing what I believe is Flash Player 9’s biggest problem at the moment. The lack of control that we have over unloading SWF files from memory (and memory management in general for that matter) is a huge deal and is truly causing some big issues with modular development. The PGA Tour app that I have been mentioning lately definitely suffers from this - memory skyrockets and all you can do is patiently wait for the Flash Player garbage collector to eventually clean up the mess. Since there is no guarantee as to when this will happen and the user is constantly clicking things that cause various modules to load and unload, memory is always higher than it needs to be.
So what can you do? As Grant mentioned, the best thing you can do is voice your concerns to the Flash Player team directly using the link below.
